Train
Entrust's mission is to "mentor and TRAIN entrepreneurs as they break the cycle of poverty".
It's easy to assume that laziness is the root cause of poverty, but even a quick glance along the streets of Port-au-Prince dispels that notion. An elderly man uses a hand-powered bicycle pump to inflate a huge truck tire, and a young girl wields a wide-brimmed basketful of wares on her head. The pace is maddening as multitudes hustle for today's dinner and tomorrow's survival.
So why do our friends in the village of Neply struggle to apply the basics of "supply and demand" to
their businesses? It's surely not for lack of industriousness or intelligence. One definition of poverty
focuses on a lack of access, and these folks certainly are impoverished by not experiencing a functioning
economy, seeing models of successful entrepreneurs, having books and the literacy to read them.
Basic business training seminars can open new channels in which their God-given creativity can flourish. While we have much to learn from developing-world entrepreneurs, many of us have been entrusted with experience and education with a far greater purpose than merely padding our own nest eggs.
- Have you developed a successful business?
- Do you have expertise in bookkeeping, marketing or other aspects of business administration?
- Are you skilled at developing or teaching curriculum?
- Can you translate into Creole or Spanish?
If you have any of these qualifications, our training program may be a good fit for you. These business seminars are offered alongside the development of mentoring relationships on week-long Entrust Ventures to Latin American and the Caribbean.
This is an amazing way to serve alongside the poor as they reclaim their human dignity and break the chains of soul-scarring shame and hopelessness.
